An appraisal is an opinion of market value.  An appraisal is generally required by your lender when purchasing a home or when refinancing your mortgage loan. In addition to these, it is wise to obtain an appraisal before putting your property on the market.  Not obtaining an appraisal could be a very costly mistake.  Don't leave money on the table by not knowing what to ask for your home.
